Understanding Government Grants for Heat Pumps

Lately there’s been a lot of buzz about government grants for heat pumps and energy star systems. What does it mean? Is it too good to be true? Is it really complicated to apply?

I’ll be honest with you, it is a little bit complicated. But the good news is that our qualified technicians have already done all the research and made all the phone calls, and after much digging, have it all figured out. So to save you the time and brain power, you don’t have to read up about every single possibility and option and learn all the ins and outs about it. With just a phone call, we can ask you a few questions and find out if you qualify for a grant and specifically which one would work best for your situation and give you the most savings.

To get started though, what are these grants for? Well we live in a “green” era. Cars have to meet certain criteria for low emissions, wood burning stoves are banned in some areas, and electric heating has become extremely efficient and can cost (and pollute) a lot less than things like oil furnaces. But converting your home from an oil furnace to a heat pump can be expensive, so the government wants to encourage you to make the change by giving you money for improving your electricity consumption! How cool is that? But they say if something seems to good to be true, it probably is. So it’s normal if you feel hesitant to get your hopes up, thinking that you probably won’t qualify or that you’ll have to spend way too much to get any money back. The truth is that adding, lets say a heat pump, to your home is a good idea in most cases. With the constantly changing technology, they can continue heating even when it’s -25 outside! (Visit our FAQ page to see an explanation about how heatpumps work). And they’re so high efficiency that if you use a heat pump instead of baseboard heaters, you’ll save money on heating every year! So much so that it will eventually pay off your heatpump. So even without the government grant, getting a heatpump is already a great investment, but to make things just a little bit easier for you, the government will give you money back! Obviously they won’t pay for the entire unit, but getting a few hundred dollars back sure feels good! The amount you get back depends on what system you already have and what you’re replacing it with, but again, we can help you find out just how much you can get back and what the best option is for you.

Is it really complicated to apply? Again, that’s where we come in. We can help you through the whole process. To qualify, your heatpump has to be one that qualifies for the grant, and has to be installed by a licensed RBQ technician. So we know what information has to be on your bill so that you have everything you need!

I hope this has helped you understand what the government grants are for, and also put your mind at ease that with our help, it can be a smooth easy process.

Have a great day, and stay warm!
